Do you remember the Taylor Swift scandal?

Writer: Helena M.Helena M.

Good evening everyone, hope you have been well.

If you've noticed today's post is titled the Taylor Swift scandal, I'm referring to the AI scandal that happened. AI is useful in many ways as such with the pictures that I use in my posts every picture is AI generated even the one that's posted in this post looks real doesn't it to an extent there are a few flaws here and there that you can tell that seem less human like. But some AI is super detailed in the case of the scandal. Today we're going to talk about AI and its benefits and its problems.

Taylor Swift Scandal:

Within March an AI generated pornographic picture of Taylor Swift circulated on X or formally Twitter. The post was up for 17 hours receiving more than 45,000,000 views and 24,000 reposts and hundreds of thousands of likes before the verified account was suspended for violating platform policy. However, the damage was done the images were allegedly created using a text to image tool designer that originated on 4 Chan. The swifties immediately went to Taylor Swift's side defending her and seeking to help restore her image due to the pornographic content. Ultimately the situation got so out of hand that it caught the attention of the members of Congress. While men are victim as well women are disproportionately impacted by the spread of AI generated and altered intimate images. A massive majority of deep fakes target women. Between 90 and 95% of the videos created with AI are nonconsensual porn involving women. Due to this uncharted territory current legal and regulatory framework in the US offers victims of such abuse little recourse. There is no federal law regulating such deep fakes and as such lawmakers stepped in to criminalize AI generated deep frags warning that the images are a threat to society. And currently the federal government is taking measures to outline such threats and laws.

Pro’s:

However, there are some pros to having AI of course unfortunately Taylor Swift got the less than favorable outcome due to AI has helped us come far in many ways such as helping process natural language, image and audio recognition, and computer vision have all helped the way we interact and consume media. With AI we can process diverse and vast amounts of data quickly making it easier to access specific information. Some real-life examples can be considered as Google voice recognition, Siri, and Alexa. Another well-known example would be Tesla.

Con’s:

however right now currently the grievances caused by AI tend to really outweigh the benefits since we don't really have any specific laws that outline the punishments or guidelines to manage AI. Without those laws in place or that infrastructure since this is all new territory many people are taking advantage of AI to hurt others, and to perpetuate disinformation and dissemination of misinformation. This contributes to the aid of biases that are harmful to society and perpetuates cybercrimes.

What are some ways that we can fix this? If you oversaw figuring out how to manage AI what would you do?

This is my question for you my audience to give you my answer to my question would be hopefully we can put something on AI images or AI in general that marks it as AI that can differentiate between the real person and the AI generated person. Also create laws that help protect the victim from any libel or slander created through AI generated images and content.
